A pen rest is an essential companion for writing — a place to rest your pen during moments of pause, and a familiar presence that brings a sense of order to your writing space.

Our wooden pen rest was designed to complement your pen and pair effortlessly with pens of all kinds. This pen rest is crafted from our signature Japanese cherry and features fuki-urushi, a traditional lacquer technique producing a subtle, matt finish. We favoured this finish over the standard gloss lacquer to allow the expressive grain of Japanese cherry to be enjoyed.

Simple yet considered in function, it supports the body of the pen — not just the nib — for peace of mind, even when still inked.

A sculptural form

The round shape effortlessly blends into any space, whether in use or at rest, while the asymmetrical curve ensures your pen will naturally settle without rolling away.

The gentle curve comfortably holds two to three pens in place.

The understated matt finish with a soft sheen gives fuki-urushi its distinctive allure. Pair it with the matching fuki-urushi nib holder for an elevated experience.

Japanese wood, crafted in Japan

The pen rest is crafted by Arai Woodworks, a sawmill and woodworking workshop in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture with over 60 years in the industry. Drawing on decades of expertise, each piece of this natural material is shaped by hand to a consistent form.

The lacquering is carried out by Komai Lacquer Works, a specialist workshop in Takaoka, Toyama — renowned for its Takaoka lacquerware — with over 80 years of expertise. Here, each carved Japanese cherry pen rest is carefully finished by hand.

• The presence of glossy surface speckles are due to a build-up of urushi lacquer in the wood fibres and not to be considered a fault. Imperfections are part of the charm of natural wood and we hope you’ll enjoy the uniqueness.
• To prevent distortion and discolouration, avoid soaking in water, sudden temperature changes, extreme heat or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
• Due to the nature of the material and treatment, grain and colour will vary between pieces.
• If marked with ink, wipe clean with a soft, clean cloth.
