From the maker, to the writer. Made for the Writer is a collection of tools by artists and makers, created to enhance your writing time. Today, we introduce our bookend and card tray designed by Arata Emi of Simple Wood Product.
We’ve enjoyed a shared creative connection with Emi for some years. Exploring the idea that depth and dimensionality are essential elements of beauty, his Shift Stack series of products aims to discover new design possibilities through a manipulation of lines and surfaces.
For this collaboration, Emi created desktop accessories that celebrate Kakimori’s concept of writing with joy. Simple Wood Product designs blend effortlessly into any space, yet spark curiosity with their distinctive imagination.

Book end
Two J-shaped blocks form this bookend set, sized to fit Kakimori notebooks perfectly. Place them on either side of your books, stack them, or create your own playful arrangement.
Card tray
A card tray made by laminating five angled strips of wood side by side. By alternating their arrangement, the centre remains flat, while the positioning of the outer strips creates a subtly upturned edge — a true Shift Stack approach. The tray comfortably holds pens as well as business cards.
Each design is available in two colours — including a bright blue and a laminated accent — that add a touch of playfulness.
