Made for the Writer - Shoko Yamazaki

From the maker, to the writer. Made for the Writer is a collection of tools by artists and makers, created to enhance your writing time. Today, we introduce our original glass pens and ink muddlers, crafted by glass artist Shoko Yamazaki.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Yamazaki for over five years. Her work primarily focuses on writing tools and accessories, including pens and pen rests, as well as decorative pieces like wind chimes and charms.

Her glass pens captivate with their eye-catching details within a simple design — from the charming ball embellishments to the mesmerising colours that swirl gracefully along the glass body. Her pens are so sought after that some customers make a special trip to Kakimori just for them.

In this collaboration, we’re delighted to present designs created by Yamazaki exclusively for Kakimori.

In her work, she honours the clarity and transparency of glass, this time while beautifully incorporating the essence of Kakimori. The result is a series of pens and ink muddlers that exude a classic yet unique elegance.

Hitosuji

This design was inspired by Kakimori’s spiral-like logo, while also evoking the image of a single drop of ink travelling through the glass body. The understated dark blue is based on a signature Kakimori shade, 06 Toppuri.

Sugiaya

This pen is an ode to the distinctive herringbone parquetry featured throughout the Kakimori shop. After much experimentation, Yamazaki has created a pattern using a colour combination reflecting her personal style. Slightly shorter and thicker than a standard glass pen, it offers a comfortably solid weight and writing experience.

Ink muddler

Inspired by the glass rods used at Inkstand, this ink muddler showcases Yamazaki’s aesthetic flair. It’s the perfect tool for blending ink colours, much like mixing paints. Simply taking in the dotted ball embellishments adorning the end is enough to soothe and calm the mind.

The glass pens and ink muddlers exclusively crafted by Yamazaki each capture and celebrate the flowing elegance and refined clarity of glass. Pair them with Kakimori tools and inks to write and create with colour in your own special moments.
